FAQs

How does counseling work?

First you will need to set up a FREE 20-minute phone consultation with me to make sure that I can help you.

After that we will set up an appointment which is usually 1-hour long in which we will discuss why you are seeking therapy and what I can help you with. After that we will set up weekly appointments to work on the skills we decided on during our first meeting.

Do you provide home exercises?

Yes, usually I will. They aren't written exercises, but will have to do with something we discussed during our session. I want to make sure that you practice the skill at home so you can start feeling better faster.

Is therapy long term or short term?

It will all depend on the person. Some people come in with a goal that they have in mind, while others have many skills and goals that they would like to work on. There is no set time frame!

What age ranges do you normally see?

Most of my clients are teens and young adults who need help with anxiety, social skills, college, and those who have trouble with identifying and expressing their emotions appropriately. I will on occasion see young children and parents for parent training and support.

What therapeutic approaches do you use?

The type of therapy I provide will depends on the client's needs, but I use evidence-based approaches which are also concrete so they are easy to understand. These are some of the methods I use:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (changing the way you think)

  • Social-Emotional Learning (Learning about emotions and how to deal with them)

  • Experiential Therapy (role-play, activity based)

  • Mindfulness (breathing, meditation, being in the moment)

  • Positive Psychology (strength based)

Do you have social skills groups?

At this time I am not providing social skills groups. However, if you are interested, send me a request to put you on my list and I will connect with you once I start providing this service.

Do you participate in any insurance panels?

At this point in time I do not participate in any insurance panels. However, in September 2020, I will start seeing clients who have Aetna Insurance. I am also an out-of-network provider, so if you have out-of network benefits, you can call me and I will give you a breakdown of your benefits and how you can use them while you are in therapy.
